30 GB

If you did not notice in the spring this is now how much space you have available for email, photos, and files.

No, in all their wisdom Downtown did not increase your user space. In fact it would not surprise me if they decreased it. You may remember at the end of last year where certain drives ran out of storage space. My sense is that while storage demands have increased tenfold in the past few years, it unlikely capacity will follow.

What the 30 GB refers to is the unified Google Drive storage. This includes email, files, photos, and videos. Files created or converted to Google Docs are not counted against this storage, photos and videos uploaded to Google + are not counted against this storage unless high quality.

Both Google + and Google Drive have various options to control access to uploaded files. As a default I always upload to private and change it as needed. If I want to share it widely within the Schenk community but not publicly I use unlisted with link.   Another option, for broader sharing, is sharing it with the MMSD domain which will allow anyone with an MMSD email to view it.

I have used Google Drive exclusively for work the past two years without major issues. With the space considerations, now is a good time to give it a whirl if you have not used it in the past.
